Hello!

Welcome to my first foray into the blog world. I've never been much for writing, but I have a lot to say so isn't that the same thing? You might recognize the title of my blog One Wild and Precious Life from a famous poem by Mary Oliver called The Summer. I first heard this poem at a memorial service for a great family friend who passed in January of 2010. The clergyman who led the service at the family's Summer cottage on the ocean that following Summer was the same clergyman who married my late friend Frank and his wife some 30 years ago. He read the poem at both the wedding and the memorial. I can say with 100% certainty that hearing that poem for the first time was also the first time I felt true inspiration. I know this because I used to always think that people were lying and looking for attention when they said they felt inspired. I didn't know what inspiration felt like yet so it didn't exist to me. Frank lived his life with abandon, probably at some times recklessly so, and was one of the most kind, calm people I ever knew. He was in his 60s so he was neither young nor old, but his sudden passing made me ask myself
What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?
I didn't have an answer for myself, but I have thought about it regularly since then and have learned to embrace life. My life has changed immeasurably so since we lost Frank, but I must thank him for showing me how to find me.

So who am I?

Well, I kind of run the gamut.

I'm a 20 year decorated Girl Scout (12 years girl, 8 years leader), a hiker, rock climber, and runner.I have both an undergraduate and masters' degree in accounting, and graduated from therapy the same month I graduated from college (man that was a lot of work!).

I'm a CPA, a loner (by choice), and a wine drinker. I do yoga, love the beach and the mountains, and I can eat... a lot. I'm a little anal-retentive, but definitely like my free time to do what I like to do. I enjoy kids a lot, but don't have plans to have my own. I'm cut out to be a fantastic auntie, and take the job very seriously.
I like budgeting, being frugal and making/reaching goals. I cheat on my boyfriend regularly with Microsoft Excel.

What I plan to do with this blog is to kind of chronicle my Wild and Precious Life. I assure you, an accountant can be wild, just don't ask me to give up my spreadsheets.
